“Land ownership in Zambia is fundamentally vested in the Republican President, meaning there is no absolute (freehold) ownership for individuals. Instead, citizens and qualifying entities hold land through leasehold tenure, typically running for 99 years, while the rest is governed by customary (traditional) tenure”

DID YOU KNOW? In Zambia, not everyone is permitted to own land, especially non-Zambian citizens.

According to the law, the following categories of persons or companies may legally own land in Zambia:

•⁠  ⁠A non-Zambian citizen who holds a Resident Permit.
•⁠  ⁠A non-Zambian citizen who holds an Investment Permit and License. 
•⁠  ⁠A company in which at least 75% of the shareholding is held by Zambian citizens.
